Agha Syed Ali Sharfuddin Mousawi (Arabic: آغا علی شرف الدین موسوی‎) was born on 29 January 1941 C.E. in a religious family at Shigar ,Baltistan.Agha Ali Sharfuddin got his early education from Shigar,a valley in Baltistan.The books he studied at local religious school inBaltistan include Quran Majeed,Pand Nama, Karimia, Gulistan, Bostan, Alkafi,Nahjul Balagha and Biharul Anwar. Then in the early 1957 C.E. , he went to Iraq for higher education and got admission in ḥawza ʻilmiyya Najaf and studied there for 13 years[1] .He also studied in Qom Iran Then he came back to Karachi and started to teach in a local Madrassa.

In 1981, he moved to ḥawza ʻilmiyya Najaf to finalize his religious education[2].He attended the lectures of the following marjas:[3]

  • Grand Ayatollah Bazurg Tehrani for Fehm-e-Hadees-o-Rajjal & Kutb Shanasi
  • Grand Ayatollah Mahmood Shahroudi for dars-e-kharij of Fiqh
  • Grand Ayatollah Abdul Aala Sabzwari for dars-e-kharij of Fiqh
  • Grand Ayatollah Abul Qasim Rashti for Rasail-o-Makatib

His contribution

He was very inspired by Shaheed Mutahhari,Ayatollah Fadhlollah and Allama Naqi.He started the revival in Shi'a Islam by preaching them the true and authentic teachings of Quran and Mohammed's progeny.He shared his part regardless of the hardship and scarcity of resources and lack of travelling facilities, and made a lot of sacrifices to preach true teachings of Islam among the mass. He made reforms in Ijtehad,tawassul and temporary marriage. He also wrote a number of books and articles for the propagation of his cause. The major work that he has done is the establishment of "Darus-saqafat-ul-islamia" which publish books and traditions of Islam. This organization made valuable steps towards the preservation of Islamic culture and values. His most influential contribution is the writings about the Ma'tam and Azadari. He tried to divert the attention of Shia community towards the real spirit of incident of Kerbala[4]. So far his books "Azadari kyon?" ,"Tafseer-e-Ashura" and "Qiyam-e-Imam Hussain" have made him a renown scholar among shia community.
